Congratulations to Caitlin Johnson, 2018 Linda S. Christensen Award

Nominator Kelly Sassi with Linda S. Christensen Award winner Caitlin Johnson

Congratulations to RRVWP TC Caitlin Johnson, who was awarded the Linda S. Christensen Literary Scholarship at the North Dakota Council for Teachers of English Annual Conference on August 1, 2018.

This $500 scholarship is awarded to an English/Language Arts teacher in his or her first two years of teaching, who is currently employed in a North Dakota school. Caitlin Johnson teaches at Turtle Mountain High School in Belcourt, ND.

Her nominator, Kelly Sassi, writes, "Caitlin Johnson has a particularly positive influence on her students, especially those with special needs.  Caitlin’s culturally responsive approach to teaching students with autism was so  innovative that she won an award for it at NDSU and went on to found the AuSome Narratives program, in which she plans and teaches parent-to-parent educational sessions on how to use oral narratives to increase children’s vocabulary skills."

Caitlin is also one of two leaders for her district in the College, Career, and Community Writers Program. She attended the National Writing Project's launch of this program in Minneapolis June 19-21, 2018. C3WP supports the teaching of argument writing in grades 4-12.

Congratulations, Caitlin! The RRVWP is fortunate to have you as one of our teacher leaders.
