NWP in the NYT

The New York Times has a story on the Obama administration's proposed budget that would effectively kill NWP as a national network by making individual states compete for money that previously went to a variety of programs, including Reading Is Fundamental (also featured in the NYT story.) NWP director Sharon Washington has some good comments, but we really need to get the word out that this new budget proposal would destroy the effectiveness of a program the federal government has supported for decades. Please call your senators and ask them to sign the "Dear Colleague" letter circulating in support of restoring NWP's direct funding from the Dept. of Education.
