Back to school

Yes, every major retailer in the country is trying to cash in on back-to-school...backpacks, computers, pencils....all the merchandise we might need.

With back-to-school comes the possibility of changing part of one's teaching practice. It would be terrific to read here what changes each of is trying to make.

ALSO....remember to look here to learn about RRVWP demos and fun stuff.

  1. Fall is exciting for exactly that reason: I love trying to change my teaching practice! This year, I'm trying to implement Writer's notebook in a different fashion - I'm trying a modified version of Kelly Gallagher's approach. Students will have notebooks that have different sections: Craft Lessons, Editing Lessons, a section for words/sentences they want to model, etc., and then a big section for trying out all the things we learn.

I'm also excited to try Gallagher's Article of the Week, which he discusses in his book Readicide. Every week kids will have an article to read and respond to, which will increase their knowledge of current events and give them some authentic reading.

Lastly, I'm going to be doing some technology things as well. I want to do blogging with kids, make more use of Glogster, and I hope to have them use diigo for research.

I'd like to hear what everyone else is planning, too! Happy August.
