Professional Book Club Gears Up

The RRVWP is pleased to announce that we are re-activating our Professional Book Club!

For our winter 2015 selection we are going to read The Discovery of Poetry: A Field Guide to Reading and Writing Poems by Frances Mayes, the author of Under the Tuscan Sun, Bella Tuscany, and In Tuscany. Mayes has also written five books of poetry as well as cookbooks, a novel, and a memoir.

In The Discovery of Poetry: A Field Guide to Reading and Writing Poems, Mayes leads readers through the reading and writing of poetry in sections on words, meter, rhyme and repetition, poetry forms, subject and style, and others. Many example and mentor poems from a variety of authors and ideas for exercises and revision are included. For more information about the book, see http://www.amazon.com/Discovery-Poetry-Field-Reading-Writing/dp/0156007622/ref=sr_1_9?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1415976134&sr=1-9&keywords=frances+mayes.

Because this book is 496 pages long, we are going to meet during four different sessions for 1.5 hours each.
In Grand Forks these sessions are set for the following Sundays from 2:00-3:30: Jan. 11, Feb. 1, Feb. 15, March 8, all in the conference room at the UND Bookstore. Professional Book Club sessions will be available for PRISM credit (pending approval) for those who are on My Learning Plan.
Fargo TCs who would like to participate in this opportunity can attend the GF sessions, Skype in (one or two participants), or, if there are at least three Fargo participants interested, we can meet in person in Fargo on the following Sundays: Jan. 25, Feb. 22, March 15, March 29, locations TBD (if there are 3+ people signed up).

We have 9 books available for RRVWP members on a first-come, first-served basis (Participants are free to buy their own copies or check them out from libraries or perhaps their school's English Department). RRVWP participants who attend at least three of the Professional Book Club sessions may keep their books courtesy of the RRVWP.

If you are interested in this opportunity and can attend the sessions on the preceding dates, please email me at pam[dot]fisher[at]gfschools[dot]org.
