May is upon us! Here's what's going on with the RRVWP this month. Please mark your calendars and join us for as many of these activities as you can.
Grand Forks Book Club: Our next book is Brown Girl Dreaming, the Youth National Book Award Winner and a Newbery Honor book by Jacqueline Woodson. We'll be meeting on Tuesday, May 5th, at 5:30 on the Rhombus rooftop. Email Andrea Scherer <andrealscherer[at]gmail[dot]com> if planning to attend. This is our April meeting rescheduled. We may be having another book club session in May, TBA.
In the final installment of our sentence-writing series, we are offering a two-hour class on Tuesday, May 19, from 4:00-6:00 pm in Room 167 at Central High School in Grand Forks. In "Sentence Combining" participants will explore different strategies for combining sentences and discuss how such strategies can be used to scaffold students in writing more sophisticated, interesting, and effective text.
If attending, enter through Door #6 (new music/theater addition). Parking is available in the lot kitty corner from Central. This session is open for registration on My Learning Plan for PRISM credit. If you plan to attend but not sign up on My Learning Plan, please contact Pam Fisher <pam[dot]fisher[at]gfschools[dot]org> so we plan for the appropriate number of copies. This session is open to other educators in addition to RRVWP TCs, so if you would like to attend and bring your teaching colleagues, they may attend as well and earn PRISM credit or clock-hour certificates. And, even if YOU cannot attend, please pass the word on to any interested colleagues.
The Fargo Writing Group is meeting on Wednesday, May 20, from 6:00-8:00 at the Paradiso in Fargo. Please RSVP to Kim Rensch by May 19 at renschk[at]fargo[dot]k12[dot]nd[dot]us if planning to attend. (The writing prompt is free, dinner extra...)
The Fargo-Moorhead Book Club plans to meet on Friday, May 22, at Usher's House in Moorhead from 4:30-6:00 pm to discuss Stupid Fast by Geoff Herbach. At this meeting the group will also discuss Summer Book Camps and book club titles for the 2015-2016 school year. RSVP to Dan Dooher at DTDOOHER2006[at]alum[dot]csbsju[dot]edu if planning to attend.
The Grand Forks Writing Group may meet this month. Information TBA when determined.
And, the Summer Institute gets underway with the Pre-Institute May 15-16 in Fargo. The Summer Institute itself will take place in Fargo in July. We look forward to working with a new group of fellows and welcoming them to the RRVWP family.
