Dear Writing Project Colleagues,
I attend many conferences every year, and there is not one conference I enjoy more than the NWT4SJ conference. Last year over 1200 teachers, teacher educators, student teachers, and community activists attended the conference. This year the conference will be held in Seattle on October 17th at Chief Sealth High School in Seattle.
Now is the time to submit your conference proposal. We are looking for detailed proposals with a clear social justice theme. Many of your presentations for your local Writing Project could be tailored for this conference. I have linked the URLs, so you can learn more about the organization, which is a collaboration of teachers from Oregon and Washington, and access the workshop proposal application. We receive no money from corporations.
Our keynote this year is David Stovall:
“David Stovall is an Associate Professor of Educational Policy Studies and African-American Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). His scholarship investigates four areas 1) Critical Race Theory, 2) concepts of social justice in education, 3) the relationship between housing and education, and 4) the relationship between schools and community stakeholders. In the attempt to bring theory to action, he has spent the last ten years working with community organizations and schools to develop curriculum that address issues of social justice.” (Black History Spotlight, Chancelors Committee on the Status of Blacks, University of Chicago at Illionois)
See you in Seattle.
Linda Christensen
