Heidi Czerwiec in the UND English Department is coordinating the Greater Grand Forks Big Read, which just got funding from the NEA to host a Big Read event in the area from October 15-November 15, 2010. The featured book is Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried, a novel in short stories about a platoon in the Vietnam War. There will be a month of events including book discussions, performances, panels, writing workshops, movie screenings, and hopefully an appearance by Tim O'Brien himself.
RRVWP is planning to co-sponsor the Big Read, as long as our teachers will get some direct benefit. What are ways the Big Read could tie in with what you might be doing in October/November with your students? Let me know at kim[dot]donehower[at]und[dot]edu, and I'll see what I can arrange.
